This visually harmonious yet non-identical pair of tall baluster-form Japanese Imari porcelain vases showcases the refined artistry of Meiji-era Arita kilns. While each vase features its own unique painted composition—ranging from flowering prunus trees and chrysanthemums to birds and stylized pagodas—they share a unifying palette of iron-red, cobalt blue, and gilt that ties them together as a cohesive decorative ensemble.

The hard-paste porcelain emits a clear bell tone, consistent with Arita kiln production, and remains unmarked, as is typical of export wares from the Meiji period. These vases were shipped to Paris, where they were embellished with ornate French gilt-bronze mounts during the Belle Époque era. Each mount includes a pierced foliate gallery rim and elaborate scrolled handles, elevating their visual impact to suit Western decorative tastes.
