A charming hand-painted maiolica plate from the historic workshops of Bassano del Grappa, in the Veneto region of northern Italy. Inscribed "Primavera" as Spring, this plate belongs to the celebrated Quattro Stagioni (Four Seasons) tradition, an allegorical theme dear to Italian decorative arts since the 18th century. The central scene depicts a young contadinello in a blue tunic and yellow stockings, gathering early blossoms and carrying a wicker basket of fruit, framed by topiaries and a sky alive with swallows in flight. The scalloped rim, finished with a manganese aubergine edge and a delicate blue scalloped border, is a signature flourish of Bassano craftsmanship. A whisper of craquelure across the tin glaze gives the plate its warm patina of time, destined for a wall, a dresser, or the heart of a curated tablescape.
