A beautiful Villeroy & Boch Burgenland handled serving bowl, likely originally part of a covered soup tureen. The piece features the collection’s classic blue and white scenic decoration, with countryside landscapes, trees, mountains, floral borders, and softly rounded handles.
The base is marked Villeroy & Boch / Made in France–Saar Economic Union / Burgenland. This mark places the piece in the post-war Saar period, when the Saar region was economically linked to France, generally dated around 1947–1956. The piece was produced by Villeroy & Boch in Mettlach, the historic Saar home of the company.
Villeroy & Boch is one of Europe’s long-standing ceramic houses, with roots dating back to 1748. In 2023, the company celebrated its 275th anniversary, reflecting its long legacy in European ceramics and tableware.
